NGVi is now more than natural gas. Welcome to the new Alternative Fuel Vehicle Institute – AFVi!

Level 1: Hydrogen Vehicle Essentials and Safety Practices

Hydrogen is a unique fuel source that can be used to power vehicles. When compared to liquid fuels such as gasoline or diesel, its gaseous state gives it unique properties.  Like natural gas-powered vehicles, hydrogen gas is stored in a compressed form on board vehicles.

Due to the high-pressures of compressed gas storage and fuel systems on a hydrogen vehicles, there are stringent and rigorous safety standards that those who work on or around the vehicles must know and apply.  These include unique hazards that require specific safety procedures for maintenance and repair.
